Kasium’s latest single So Electric is crisp production, catchy riffs, catchier lyrics and a healthy dose of wholesome rock and roll. The single couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve just come out of a month long Kieran Cooper binge with a hunger for more. It’s a brighter tone than their recent sneaky single, Halo, though very much cut from the same cloth. While their previous effort the Premonition EP was heavily rooting in the traditions of grunge, these new singles from a forthcoming album border on Nu-Metal, a strange claim to make about a New Zealand band, and would sit comfortably on the pop charts next to Lugar Boa and Shotgun Alley.
Kieran brings his shouty voice along for this ride, but it’s far from monotonic. He utilises both the middle and high end of his vocal range, with plenty of colourful sneering between. A good parallel would be the original material from Drowning Pool, think the track Bodies (only fans would know they have other material). Not only does Kieran has a similar vocal range as the late Dave Williams but uses the song to teach his listeners how to count to four.
I wait in anticipation for the drop of the new album as I’m sure many others are. Thankfully, you can catch some sneak singles and other material on Kasium’s Reverbnation page for now and if you haven’t yet try some of Kieran’s solo material, available off Bandcamp.
