The mother and daughters reggae trio NRG Rising from Hamilton, first entered into the music scene in 2011 with their debut album From Darkness To Light, and have gathered a strong and loyal following ever since.
The band’s latest single Take Us High has been described as a “catchy, soulful tune echoing the popular 1990’s style of R&B”. The single is accompanied by a video which is reminiscent of a few parties’ in the 90’s, I may have attended. Produced by NZ hip hop legend Dei Hamo, this will be followed by NRG’s subsequent album Say Yes To Life.
In my opinion, this single has some seriously smooth grooves and will get your body swaying to a rhythmic beat. This music is sultry infused with a touch of sass. Melodic tones and polished vocals are delivered, with all three of these ladies working together in beautiful harmony.
The trio have a remarkable list of milestones from the look of the NRG Rising Media Kit. And this only covers from 2009 – 2011, there have been many more since then. Their success and subsequent impressive following are well deserved and is a testament to their focus and energy. Lyrics with “uplifting messages” and plenty of soul.
Take Us High is produced by the Vodafone Best Roots Artist Award winner Israel Starr, who is also joining NRG Rising in a 12-date tour of USA.
NRG Rising are a force to be reckoned with in the NZ R&B scene, and Take Us High is no doubt destined to become another notch on their sweet soulful belt. “Let the music take you high”.
