Lauren Gin has her goals set high.
She has confessed that ever since the age of 20 she’s determined to set her name among the world of Kiwi producers. To gather further traction, Lauren has teamed with fellow wahine Janayah for the new release Remedy.
The aural stage is set with pitter-pattering drums, and a calming, mildly-dreamy synth melody, then the swells of the bass soon wraps up the listener in a cocoon of humming warmth.
The soul-pop inspired hook of “You’re my remedy, yeah you set me free” is sure to grab the attention of even the least attentive of listeners. Coupled with the build-and-drop of the chorus, one couldn’t help but boogie a little to the tune’s groove.
The heavy kick drums, the chattering and sizzling snare sounds, plus the humming undercurrent of bass synths are all there as signatures of a trap track. The winding and twirling notes in the breakdowns are particularly fun, adding to the groove, and makes one want to close their eyes, and sway along to the ebb-and-flow of the rhythm and the filtered vocal samples.
Avid listeners of dubstep and pop/trap genres should absolutely give Remedy a whirl or two. With the right amount of hype and exposure, there is absolutely no reason Remedy couldn’t be a dance-pop radio chart-topper.
With more singles of this calibre in tow, Lauren Gin could become a household name and light up hearts and ears both here, in Aotearoa, and abroad. The market for dub-trap-pop isn’t showing signs of slowing, and tickets for electronic festivals are still selling like hotcakes. Keep an eye peeled for this one – Lauren Gin could just be your city’s new favourite DJ act.
