Combining slick bluesy riffs with a solid rock foundation, Wellington’s Merrin have hit out with their latest single Mr. Dominant. Pulling in themes around sexual dominance and power, this slugging rock track has just hit the airwaves and should be pounding through car radios in no time.
The riffs are sludgy and grooving, the drums are big and thumping and the bass is locking down the fort. On top, vocalist Charlie has plenty of room to weave her complex vocal lines around the band with plenty of space. The song struts in a way, basking in its own confidence. It oozes an air of coolness and never tries to push its way out the pocket that’s been created.
Bringing the dynamics down into the verse, allow the chorus to soar into life with sharp stabbing hits to power through the wailing vocals. Although it feels the song never quite hits the big something extra in the chorus, the song has plenty of gas in the tank.
Mr. Dominant is strong out of the gate and is a solid track as the band’s first single. Definitely something for fans of straight up rock roll such as Black Stone Cherry, Halestorm, or Shinedown to check out.
