Single Review: Bear 1

Davidda’s latest single release is Bear, the third in a successful string of releases. In this track indie-artist Davidda brings together musicians Anna Coddington (guitar and production), Mike Hall (Bass), Caleb Nott (keyboard) and Lips (synth). This track has a delicate shimmery pop-indie vibe, the vocals interweave between instruments and arrangements. It’s upbeat and delicate: I like it a lot. It’s visually accompanied by a saccharine and delightful illustration of the artist holding hands with a bear, or paws.

The bass sets the scene from the outset, with an almost walking pace tempo. The release comes with some blurb that the lyrics were written from snippets of poetry and compiled over time. She sings, “sugar coat the things I confess in cold-hearted reason’ and then the bass responds in slow and steady tone. ‘I’ve got to let it all fall by the wayside so I can do better” – the lyrics are reflective, inward looking and contemplative. It works.

I enjoyed the languorous guitar solos, as well. Add in a catchy chorus and here we have a perfect look at the sense, missense and complexities of trying to understand things. Pondering is sort of what it feels like. I’ll look forward to future releases from Davidda.
