Old Bones Make New Blooms Ep Review 1

The latest offering from Antagonist A.D at first listen felt like it was missing something vital. The more I listen the more I’m feeling it though. 5 very short songs make up ‘Old Bones Make New Blooms, all tasty little morsels that would set a mosh off.

Homesick – straight into it, with some tweaky electronic fx and steady basslines from the rhythm section, coupled with the trademark evocative vox. Short song at 1:17, sets the tone.

D.W.T.S – bit more of a hook on the intro, and some very nice quick gax solos. Thrashie pace, somewhere near ‘brutal gallop’.

Europe – power axe hooks lure you into a real mosh song, complete with chantable lyrics and headbanging pace riffs. Heavy enough for the centurions, hard enough for the moshpit. Feeling something tangible out of this track. Favourite so far.

Same Old Story – Similar hook from track 3 here, used again very effectively as it fits in real nice. A bit of backup vox used to good effect in this track to mellow things out, without losing pace. Finger tapping boot stomping track.

Death Traders – Rapid tempo and drawn out chords, reminds me somewhat of Cavalera, and somehow Anthrax. Nice dropping chewy riffs around the chorus, and some nice distortion on the outro.

Back to you in the studio.
