Gig Review: The Forge Of His Masters Downfall @ Kings Arms, Auckland – 5/03/2016

The warm air and the promise of a great line up set the night for The Forge Of His Masters Downfall at the Kings Arms March 5th. A clever play on words featuring all three bands in the title (can you guess them all?) and a brilliant show put on by Downfall Of Humanity Guitarist, Bryce Patten.

Kicking things off with Power Metal titans, Stormforge blowing everyone’s minds with their outstanding vocal prowess courtesy of vocalist, Courtney O’Leary. With all eyes glued on them, the band’s stage presence made the atmosphere hearty and immense injection of fun to pave the way for the rest of the night.

Following suit with an equal mixture of excitement was Downfall Of Humanity, laden with heavy riffs and chunks of melody. From a quick glance around, plenty of faces seems just as enraptured by the performance before us all. Lots of vigorous head nodding all around and by the cheering of their set, especially after their epic cover of Eye of The Tiger well, I think they gained a fair few new fans.

Collectively described as “The Devils Blues” Auckland foursome, His Master’s Voice are the hot topic of Kiwi Rock n Roll of late and if you haven’t already caught them live, you need to. Full of Led Zeppelin swag, they are smooth and easy on the ears. It’s hard not to get swept up in the moment and it’s never easy to fully capture to readers how great of a show they put on. Vocalist, Jesse Sorensen has the blues running through his veins, an old soul in a young man’s body that clearly lives and breathes what he does and it shows. A tight band that sound years above their average ages. The night ended with a lot of happy faces from punters and bands alike, a well put together show and I can’t wait for the next one.
