Gig Review: Georgia Lines @ Grater Goods, Christchurch – 07/05/2021
On the 7th of May, Christchurch was treated to an evening with pop artist Georgia Lines, at the intimate
vegan eatery Grater Goods. The final show in her first nationwide tour, Georgia had been touring alongside pop duo LAIIKA, playing shows in Auckland, Tauranga and Wellington. For this Christchurch show she played solo, accompanying herself on keys to
a small but appreciative audience.
Georgia treated the audience to a mixture of original tracks from her debut self-titled EP, some new tracks including new song No One Knows, as well as a cover of Say A Little Prayer.
Georgia’s vocals were phenomenal, showing off her beautiful range and her perfect pitch. She began the evening with a new tune that raised the hairs on the back of my neck with her soaring high notes. She told stories about some of her songs,
and gave us an insight to the rest of the tour, telling us she got to crowd surf at her Tauranga show. Her interaction with the audience was charming and warm.
Georgia got the audience involved and set us a challenge of learning a new song of hers, Breaking Up’s Easy, teaching us the melody of the chorus with actions to help us remember the lyrics. Audience participation, particularly at an intimate show, can be quite daunting, but she was well received and once we were warmed up, this proved to be a real highlight of the evening.
We were asked to join her again at the end of her track Made For Loving, a personal favourite of mine. Rounding off the night with her beautiful song My Love, before being asked for an encore, she closed the set with a cover of Don’t Dream It’s Over. A wonderful evening of beautiful music, I highly recommend seeing this talented up and coming artist play live if you get the chance.
