Ep Review: Realisation // Revelation 1

Helgorithms is a three piece metal assault on New Zealand’s music scene bringing a unique blend of experimental post metal to life. Their debut EP, Realisation // Revelation was released a few months ago but after discovering there had been no review done for this EP, I jumped at the chance. Let me begin by saying that being influenced by bands like post metal veterans, Neurosis and ISIS is never a bad thing because Helgorithms have created their own path in their music and although it is still rough in some places, they do possess a whole heap of potential which is both unique and exciting.

What Helorithms have achieved in such a lengthy three track EP is the journey it takes you on. It’s almost ethereal in the most metal way possible of course. Those meaty bass lines are killer, especially in first track Tether, and I love the progressiveness of each song with so many elements gelling together. Burzum and Kerretta spring to mind if I were to describe any other band(s) that also embody a unique experimentation to their sounds and to that, hats off to Helogorithms because they’re already proving their worth here in just three tracks.
