Churlington are a Christchurch based band, comprised of two dudes who give the impression of being very angry but make no discernable attempt to explain through their music why this is the case.
Now I Have A Machine Gun… Ho Ho Ho consists of five pieces and comes in under seven minutes in length, so in terms of ‘bang for your buck’, probably not an especially good investment.
The songs themselves are mainly noise walls with pretty indistinguishable lyrics layered in the mix. I am not sure if this is a case of Churlington not really having anything to say, or just not wanting anyone to understand what they may be trying to saying – though to be fair, I’m probably not the target audience in this case. There are elements that remind me a little of ‘At The Drive-In’ but only in a vague sense. Most of the songs have pretty cool titles such as Hey, Business Is Business. You Use A Gun, I Use A Fountain Pen and Excuse Me, Sir! But What About The Body That Fell Out The Window? and the cover art is definitely attention grabbing, but overall the EP feels like a case of the Emperors New Clothes.
