Ep Review: Keep On Smiling 1

If you’re looking for the perfect sound track to summer, Graham Candy has got you covered with his latest release, EP Keep On Smiling, released on October 22nd.

After relocating to Berlin to begin his music career, New Zealand born Graham Candy has enjoyed success collaborating with popular German DJ Alle Farben on the international hit She Moves. Candy’s latest release is a collection of fresh, upbeat tunes that make for easy listening.

The EP opens with acoustic track Belong, carried by twinkling guitar and Candy’s unique, captivating vocals. Quirky and husky, his voice is reminiscent of artists such as Tash Sultana. A gentle, calming opening track, Belong is a lovely introduction to the EP and a real highlight.

Next up is lead single Aroha, an upbeat, nostalgic song about longing for a Kiwi Summer. Catchy and uplifting, Aroha is the stand out track on the EP, as it certainly makes you do just that.

Third track Find My Way is another acoustic track and a welcome break from the fully produced Aroha. The simple track leaves plenty of room for Candy’s quirky vocals to shine. Fourth track Keep On Smiling is a return to the full band sound, with a sing-along chorus. Closing track Not.Any.More is a groovy conclusion to the EP, but I wonder if the whole collection would’ve fared better if it concluded with a more thoughtful, stripped back track like Belong or Find My Way. Personal preferences aside, Candy has released a well-produced, lively collection of tracks that will be the perfect addition to your playlists this summer.
