Ep Review: From The Flames 1

During the 2020 lockdown, many exciting independent bands came to light. Rowdy’s Rose, a husband and wife duo from the Waikato consisting of Blair and Rosie Shaw are one of them. Their recently released debut EP From The Flames is sure to delight modern country fans with its rocking sound and country influence.

The couple’s sound is a showcase of their range and diversity, combining their varied musical backgrounds of grunge rock and metal with a pop country presence.

The first track Ride With Me, brought to mind a song from the TV show Nashville in the best possible way (I loved that show). Raunchy guitar, harmonious vocals and a broken heart combine to create the perfect platform to launch into the EP.

Running In The Dark, which is sung by Blair, delivers rock flair. Less country, more metal. Throughout the EP the couples vocal style complement each other perfectly, this song has a sound which effectively highlights contraposition in styles.

The title song From The Flames is a beautifully composed song which tugs at the heartstrings, Rosie’s harmonic vocals shine. Delicate yet rich with a mellow warmth.

Before The Dawn and Gonna Be Alright continue to delight with the band’s polished sound.

Inspiration for the EP came from the rough times for everyone globally over the past few years, whilst highlighting the beautiful things which have come out of it for the couple.

Rowdy’s Rose have gained International airplay and chart positions in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, USA, Malta, Italy, Canada and New Zealand, reaching 81 countries worldwide.

From The Flames is a wonderful mix of country rock and heartfelt ballads with a true modern country sound. The pair have plans to release a full length album in the near future which I look forward to hearing.
