Dream City Album Review

Golden Curtain’s latest album release Dream City is a honest independent rock album with 10 songs that engage with real world themes and unpretentious song structures.

The sound throughout stays true to its 3 piece Drums/Bass/Guitar structure, it’s atmospheric and moody, no doubt due to Andrew McKenzie’s 12 string guitar which creates an aural space and a floating psychedelic feel.

Each song is driven by Andrew McKenzie’s cool vocal, which has a strength and fluidity that keeps each song sailing nicely on its journey. The title track Dream City flows coolly with a vocal melody that engages and summonses you to join in on backing vocals, I find myself joining in on the choruses of songs like Let Go, Lost Again and Network Space, which delves (I think) into to the cruel world of network gossiping. Each song has a similar sound and structure but thankfully there are nice tempo changes in songs like Sweet Louise and Lost Again.

Dream City is real and raw, it’s not over produced with special effects or doubling of parts, you sense the album sounds exactly how Golden Curtain sound live.
