Nevernudes (ONEWORDPLEASE) are a four piece punk band from Auckland on Mole Music http://www.molemusicltd.com/, listening to their latest EP ‘Creepy Crawlies’ was my introduction to them, you can download this for $10 at http://www.nevernudes.net/ – they’ve also released a free EP which you can nab from here:  http://nevernudes.net/album/nevernudes-first-ep .

So to be honest I wasn’t that excited by it – I’m just not into the whole droney-atonal-punk thing (though I know some people really are!). I thought the best track was ‘Laying Down On The Concrete’, it’s mainly guitar/bass and vocals with subtle drums coming in at the end. It felt natural for them, especially for the vocals. It’s a nice moment in the EP – the low backing vocals or choir samples at the start are a great touch, I rather enjoyed that track – have gone back and listened to it a few times now.

The rest of the EP kind of merged into one, except for maybe ‘Beaten Pathetic’ and ‘Oblivion’. For punk it could have been stronger – the best moments in the EP seemed to be where they shied away from their chosen genre. They obviously have a bit of ping though and probably have great energy live – they seem to be having fun doing what they’re doing, so right on I say! Head along to one of their shows when you can, I’m sure you’ll have a good time.

Overall, I ‘d describe it as a lazy punk sound with a few good breakdowns thrown in there. They’re a young band so definitely watch this space, I’m sure we’ll hear stronger tracks from them in the near future, the breakdowns in there might be a glimpse of what they’re capable of – I’ll definitely be keeping an ear out for them.
