Led by ex-NZ Idol runner-up Michael Murphy, I expected 5star Fallout to come up with recycled pop-rock covers but they definitely proved me wrong. Prior to the gig, Quarter 2 had nothing but good things to say about this band and I have to say that I agree with everything they said. 5star Fallout’s harmonies were perfect, their songs were well rehearsed and they worked well as a team.
It was obvious that Michael has learnt a lot from his NZ Idol experience and he has probably taught the other band members a thing or two, but when watching 5star Fallout perform everything to do with NZ Idol was soon forgotten and I now have nothing but respect for them. They have an amazing stage presence and really know how to work the crowd. The lyrics teamed up perfectly with the music and their talent was almost overwhelming.
Their songs are worthy of hitting the top 10 charts and that is not because of the instant popularity that Michael has given the band – that is because they are actually good, really really good. If not already, this is one band that will inspire others – a band that other bands will list as an influence on their biography.
5star Fallout made good use of the stage, have put a lot of thought into all of their songs and have the support of a great manager. They are destined to go far and will exceed all expectations the music industry may have for them. I definitely was not disappointed and I know that if you should ever see them live you will not be disappointed either.
The best part about the performance was seeing how much passion 5star Fallout have for their music. Not only are they passionate about their music but they are also passionate about how they present their music on stage. They are not afraid to interact with the crowd and to get everyone motivated and they left me with a great first impression of the band. It was also great to see 5star Fallout and members from Quarter 2 sing some songs together.
Favourite Song: The song this tour was named after – Seasons.

I’ve been interested in music for as long as I can remember – I grew up listening to my parent’s records and watching the Top 40 Countdown on TV every weekend. I also played the drums and guitar in high school, and wrote lyrics for some of my friend’s bands. I come from a musical background; my Granddad was one of the main founders of country music clubs in Taranaki. Rock is my favourite genre of music, but I enjoy a huge variety of genres from old school hip-hop through to metal, punk, pop, folk and EDM. My advice to NZ musicians’ is to build yourself a great support network, never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and talk to
