Auckland based singer-songwriter Shana Grace has just released her debut full length album Rinse And Repeat. With the help from a year long crowd funding campaign, emerges ten beautifully constructed songs of lyrical storytelling. Hot on the heels of her debut EP Hello, It’s Me Again, Shana follows through on this album with her captivating style of soft vocals and gentle acoustic guitar.
Her music style can be described as alternative Indie/folk influenced by such musical artists as The Dixie Chicks, The Cranberries, Etta James and the Andrews Sisters. There is a refinement to her music which is charming. Tranquil, sweet and soothing vocals.
Rinse And Repeat is an album where the lyrics shine. Personal and deep with introspection, the “conversational” manner in which Shana delivers her songs adds to the intimacy of her music.
Delicately guiding you into the album with Shadows, I immediately got a good sense of the stripped back instrumentals and shining vocals peppered with beautiful layered harmonies. On a random note, moving on through to Vignette and the opening bars brought to mind The Love Inside by Barbara Streisand .
My standout track was Big Boat, the story swept me away.
Shana was supported by a host of talented musicians playing a range of instruments and backup vocals. Everyone worked cohesively together to create the delicate sound Rinse And Repeat has achieved. Skilled instrumentalists, who enhance each track without overpowering.
Ten tender tracks which flow along tranquilly in an ethereal manner. Poetic, honest and refined. Put simply a beautiful album.
