Album Review: Rhythm And Resonance 1

Cashek is the alias of Electronic musician Floyd Pepper whose debut album Rhythm And Resonance, presents an array of emotive tracks brought into existence while backpacking throughout the USA, Mexico, and Guatemala towards the end of last year.

The seven-track album provides the listener with a lush sonic journey, fusing various elements of Electronica ranging from chilled out down tempo, slices of broken beat, to more atmospheric and laid back arrangements and synth work. Modern in production values, Rhythm And Resonance excels at not sounding too forced or overloaded with unnecessary sounds, leaving plenty of breathing space to get lost between the grooves.

Armed with a portable MIDI keyboard and laptop while soaking up his surrounding traveling experiences has led Cashek to harness a distinct mood for this album, proving what can be achieved with a minimal approach and backed by a solid musical foundation.

With this in mind, there are some brilliant Keyboard and Piano parts scattered throughout the selection of tracks (see Despond and For You in particular) and highlights Floyd’s musical abilities in harbouring interesting and thought provoking motifs and chord progressions.

The two vocal based tracks Modern Statues (feat. RPL) and Blossom (feat. Eilish Rose), also provide a nice counterpoint against the backdrop of otherwise instrumental tracks, showcasing the producer’s ability in crafting suitably apt vocals, elevating and enhancing the tracks even further.

Overall, this is a strong release containing some real magical moments that continue to reveal themselves on further listening, pleasing even the most introspective of headphone listeners and hazy afternoon cloud gazers alike.
