Zachary Backdrop upcoming single release

Wellington’s own Zachary Backdrop is releasing a new single, Handsome Trees, on October 28th.

Zachary is releasing his second single Handsome Trees – a new song which demonstrates a confident command of versatile songwriting and a talented ear for detail. The song weaves a tapestry of homespun hardware and modern production techniques creating an eerily ageless-sounding pop. Processed drums accent hook-filled synth collages while the vocals ring raw and tuneful. The song is mixed by Dave Benton (of Subpop’s Lvl Up and Trace Mountains), mastered by Nick Bolton (of Bolton Sound fka Holy Tapes) and features Shannen Petersen (Fruit Juice Parade, Sports Dreams).

This is the follow-up to last year’s debut single Jewellery, an SRN favourite which featured in a number of top tens for example, RDU and Radio Control. Since then, Zachary has played his debut live show in Wellington at a sold-out night with fellow band Welcomer and is gearing up to release his debut EP.

Handsome Trees is about grieving the loss of time and looking for the unchanging things in life to help hold you in place. Featuring friends both near and far, it is a song about letting things go while trusting that the important things will stay true.
