Wellington’s Matt Hay announces new album ‘Dog and Pony Show’

Veteran Wellington ‘Kiwimericana’ songwriter Matt Hay is gearing up to release his brand new album, Dog and Pony Show on Friday 5 April.

Produced by fellow Pōneke musician Darren Watson, Dog and Pony Show is testament to Hay’s ability to craft strong, thoughtful, and often wry lyrics that touch on everything from the minutiae of everyday life, to broader political themes. All that and musical hooks for days!

Recorded largely live-in-the-studio at Watson’s Lamington Recording (essentially his lounge), over its eight tracks Dog and Pony Show captures the essence of Hay’s honest and heartfelt approach to music. Backed by a stellar lineup of musicians including Watson on slide guitar, Steve Moodie on double bass, Craig Denham on accordion, and Delia Shanly on drums and percussion, the album boasts a real ‘down-home’ feel where Hay’s vocals take centre stage, drawing listeners in and offering an intimate experience.

“I’m thrilled to share this collection of songs,” says Hay. “It’s been a great experience collaborating with such talented musicians, and I can’t wait for folks to hear the result.”
