Star Control & PolarisRadio Set to Electrify Auckland in March

This March, two of New Zealand’s finest synthwave acts are joining forces to take you on a sonic journey through a land of epic synth tones that were previously thought to be lost somewhere in the 1980’s. Synthwave has been described as dance music inspired by retro sci-fi movie soundtracks, but Star Control and PolarisRadio deliver so much more – each put their own unique spin on this genre and deliver energetic, engaging live performances.

Star Control are a 3-piece synthwave group from Auckland, comprised of David Somervell, Felix Lun and Omar Al-Hashimi. Their soaring synths and driving drums will transport you into your own personal montage sequence – from a soft-focus slow dance with your cyberpunk sweetheart to a bad trip in an alien disco, then punching into hyperspace towards another dimension – you’re sure to be taken on an excellent adventure. Star Control have been working on upgrading their live show for the new year – “We’ve had a few under-the-hood upgrades as well as some very obvious upgrades, so if you haven’t heard us in a while come check us out”

PolarisRadio is Dean Moroney – a Napier artist who takes the synthwave sound and morphs it into something far heavier and darker. Not afraid to swap the synth lines with guitar riffs, PolarisRadio delivers distorted basslines, wailing guitar solos, frenetic visuals and ominous synth tones which will are sure to get the crowd moving. The last time PolarisRadio was in Auckland he was on stage at the 2020 Armageddon Expo and he’s excited to be returning once more to play a full set – “I can’t wait – last time I visited I had the time of my life with only a portion of my live rig, this time I’m bringing the whole lot for maximum impact”
