With pretty and colourful sounds matched with an infectious beat, the Kiwi-born rapper explores a juxtaposition of childlike emotions and mature storytelling. Saint Lane creates an encapsulating, nostalgic feeling in the music, coupled with clever wordplay crossing into his life as a young adult.
“I wanted something that felt magical; the feeling I got as a kid when I went to Rainbow’s End, the theme park in Auckland’, reflects Lane. “I also talk about a period of my life when I was at university and essentially just went on a two year bender and found myself in a lot of troublesome situations.”
Garnering success on singles such as Hickeys, Toothbrush and When Did We Grow Up?, all featuring Saint Lane’s vocal strengths, Peace Sign soley showcases Lane’s unparalleled rapping ability. “I wanted to remind people that I can still rap,” says Lane.
Peace Sign joins singles Toothbrush and Los Palms from the upcoming Rainbows End EP, with Toothbrush having support from Mai fm, Niu fm, ZM and Sniffers, as well as solid JJJ support in Australia. The full EP will give a taste of everything, with Lane describing it as an “eclectic project. Each song on the EP has a life of its own.”
Saint Lane has established himself as a dynamic potency in the Australian and New Zealand music industry. Since his inception, Lane has collaborated with Andrew Dawson (Kanye West’s producer) and Mike Malichicoff (Kids See Ghosts’ producer), and locally featured on tracks with Bootleg Rascal, Robbie Miller, and Travy P.
For Peace Sign, Lane likens the single to a quote from Tim Robinson; “It’s kind of a cosmic gumbo, it almost moves to the beat of jazz”.
