A delicate, stripped-back song built around a simple guitar, It’s All Over You showcases the depth of Robinson’s writing and serves as a reminder as to why the NZ Music Award-nominated artist is one of New Zealand pop music’s most successful exports of recent times.
It’s All Over You is also the cherry on the top of an impeccable five-track EP, which includes the energy-fuelled radio favourites Oblivion and Things Aren’t Nice In Paradise (#1 Hot 20 NZ Singles Chart) alongside tender tunes Regardless and Nirvana.
“I feel the sound has grown right alongside me helping to show the tenderness, angst, grit, confusion, and joy that comes along with living life. As people, we are a multitude of many things rather than just one thing and I really wanted to showcase all of these facets in the sonic of this EP, so it would make it a true journey,” says Robinson.
The Chasing Nirvana EP also paves the way for more to come from the talented artist, who first started turning heads with her 2018 smash hit, ‘Nothing To Regret’, which has an impressive 124 million streams on Spotify alone.
“This is part one of a three part story,” explains Robinson. “This EP is the moment before the realisation that things are not as they appear to be… which will come in the next EP!”
Robinson explains that the concept for the records came to her during lockdown. “As horrific as the pandemic was for the world, I think it showed one thing that I found to be quite amazing – there is a huge power in really pausing in life… I feel we are really able to hear our truest selves when we sit amongst the quiet, which we often forget to do, in this busy world!.”
Which brings it all back around to, Chasing Nirvana. “We picture paradise as this place that exists somewhere far away, which society often tells us lies in the perfect job, perfect appearance, the perfect life and therefore; it becomes about ‘Chasing Nirvana’ rather than truly attaining it.”
Robinson made her first big statement in 2018 with her sparkling pop gem Nothing To Regret (certified Platinum in New Zealand and double Platinum in Australia). In 2020, she released her debut four-track EP Watching You. She was also invited to record her own take on How Can I Resist Her by Split Enz for 2021’s True Colours, New Colours tribute album. Earlier this year she opened for OneRepublic, taking in shows across Australia before performing at Auckland’s Spark Arena.
