Pōneke artist Summer Henderwood releases music video ‘drive’

Released as her debut single, Pōneke based Summer Henderwood’s dream-pop tune drive indulges in innocent insensibilities painted with heavenly harmonies and hope-filled beats. Her new music video gives a nostalgic, familiar feeling of crush-driven summers.
Henderwood wrote the track in the depths of a Dunedin winter, drawing inspiration from awkward first dates, conveying “how even a pretty mediocre first date can be a catalyst for that romantic, escapism type of daydreaming.”
“Growing up on the south coast of Pōneke, my escape has always been the ocean, and music. Whenever I need to centre myself I climb the hill up the road and look out at the sea. It soaks everything up. I actually often find myself coming up with melodies on the way home and recording them on my phone.
In the process of filming, we tried to capture the music interacting with the landscape and it just fell into place. Shooting in Mākara, we wanted to create a hazy, dream-like atmosphere to induce the feeling of being swept away. We managed to get a day with no wind which felt pretty surreal in itself!”
There will be more to come from Summer as she emerges in the Wellington music scene, returning with Jon Toogood on his upcoming tour in October. Let her take you on a drive full of sun-kissed fantasies and blissful bedroom-pop, and feel the warmth summer is bringing.
