Parabola West's 'no One Can Get Me Here' Reaches 1000 Streams

Parabola West promised to unlock the new video for No One Can Get Me Here if the song reached 1000 Spotify streams in the first five days of release – and she has reached her target with time to spare.

The video was directed by musician, composer, producer, songwriter and filmmaker Andy Duggan. Alongside his own work, he is also part of Equal Voices, a UK/NZ arts company which works across theatre, film, music and dance, and specialises in inclusive/accessible work. Their productions include Where Our Shadows Meet, a Creative NZ-funded story about love, loss and language, told with physical storytelling, live instrumental music, New Zealand Sign Language, and spoken English.

Upon the release of No One Can Get Me Here, earlier today one fan said, “Just magical! Feels like there’s a little bit of Kate Bush energy in there.”

Parabola West says, “No One Can Get Me Here was recorded during a time of human disconnection around the world. For me, nature became a playful sanctuary and an enduring source of connection. Even if the world felt crazy, the night sky was calm, the trees were moving in the breeze, and nature carried on. It was so comforting to smile at the stars.”

Parabola West is a self-confessed ‘math and science nerd’, saying that she experiences music as ‘a combination of emotion, science, and math – a mixture of precise structure and imperfect elements.’ The way a parabola can be used to focus light onto a fixed point (the magnifying glass trick used to start a fire with the sun), West uses those principles to focus emotions into music, hence the name.

Think of Parabola West as mixing Loreena McKennitt with your favourite female-fronted synthpop band, and then adding a dash of Middle-earth.

Produced by Scott Newth (Knightshade, Cornerstone Roots, The Datsuns), Parabola West’s sound has been compared to Aurora, Halsey, and Eivør, and this song especially could happily sit alongside Lorde’s latest work.

No One Can Get Me Here
is the latest single from Parabola West’s forthcoming debut album, due out in April. The album will be accompanied by a gorgeous art book which will be available for pre-order in March.
