On Tick Announce Debut Album

On Tick, just like everything in life. They are a band from Auckland belting out heavy tunes for your pleasure!
On Tick is the brainchild of brothers Brendan (vocals and drums) and Aidan O’Loughlin (vocals, guitar) formed from the ashes of their previous musical outfit Evil Tomato, who began as a band in 2012.
On Tick has been an active band since early 2020 including several songs written in the Evil Tomato era that have been reworked to fit the new On Tick sound. These songs include Radioshit, Don’t Know Who I Am, The Beast and World War 10
The initial recoding of the debut album took place at MAINZ, after hearing fellow Auckland band Black Sands demos, the band reached out to the man responsible for these demos Matt Hammond of Tin Dolphin Studios.
Initially, the album was planned to be a raw 2-piece album punk style affair, that would clearly reflect the duo’s live intense shows, though as Matt would say later “the songs lent themselves to more atmospheres and layers.”
Examples of this can be heard in the songs, Breathing Toxins, Hound and The Beast, featuring richly layered guitars, combined with pitchy yells and bombastic drum patterns, that run deep and ensnare many elements within the same pallet of sound.
On Tick singed up to the ‘Ding Dong Lounge Battle of the Bands Competition’ June 2020. Matt Hammond was recruited to play the Bass for the series of shows that made up the competition. The band made it through to the semi-finals, whilst befriending many great local bands along the way.
Muzic.net.nz veteran reviewer Kev Rowland has gone on record citing the band as ‘Complex Punk.’
“What is fascinating for me about their music is that it is easy to just pass it by as hardcore punk noise, but anyone who pays attention to what is going on will understand there is a huge amount of complexity.” – Kev Rowland.
On Tick have played an array of consistent shows across 2020 and 2021, with local and regional bands.
The band plan on releasing the debut 12 track album after the latest Covid-19 Level 4 Lockdown, and have recruited Matt Perry (Halo of Ashes, HATT) to fulfil bass duties, while Matt Hammond focuses on providing a second guitar to increase the bands sonic capabilities.
“We’re an example of a band who doesn’t give up,” cites Aidan, “these songs are a part of us and we want to share them with you, maybe they can help you just how they’ve helped me.”
The band are releasing their first single, taken from the title of the album Nothing New on the 24th of September across all major streaming platforms. A further three singles from the album will be released bi-weekly, after the release of the first single. Finally, On Tick’s debut album will be released November 2021 on all major streaming platforms.
