Nigel Parry Releases 'the Day The Bank Closed Its Doors'

Nigel Parry’s newest release The Day The Bank Closed Its Doors is a song inspired by the decline of a rural New Zealand town.

“I’ve played the song to audiences around the country, and it’s amazing how many different names get suggested when I ask people to guess which town,” says creator Nigel Parry.

“Turns out the story of one town, symbolised by the really impressive bank, that is no longer a bank, is the story of so many places around New Zealand.”

“I’m still not saying which town actually inspired the song. Not yet anyway.”

The Day The Bank Closed Its Doors is a single off Nigel Parry’s forthcoming new folk album Tales of Common Folk, Salt and Sweet Kisses. To be released on 3rd April, it features some of New Zealand’s finest folk musicians, taking the listener on a reflective journey from the decline of Kiwi rural towns, through stories of Marlborough Sounds whalers, love and loss in olden times, even a Viking raid.
