Lévyne Returns with a Brand New EP ‘Would That Be The Best’

Lévyne presents a brand new EP Would That Be The Best to be released today. Known for her sharp pop hooks and intricate harmonies, Tāmaki Makaurau artist Lévyne has kept to her guns and truly put her heart on her sleeve in this new 6- track collection of beautifully honest music. An EP that immortalises the flood of confusion and beautiful moments experienced in your mid-20’s.
“These tracks were something I poured my heart and soul into over some of the most confusing years of my life. They each hold memories I’m very fond of, that I think many of us experience at some point. I will always listen to this and remember who and where I was at the time I wrote them, and I think that’s so special.”
Would That Be The Best glides open with Space, a new song from Lévyne with a silky dreamlike quality that encapsulates sleepless nights. From there the EP includes released singles I Don’t Think It’s Me and Call You Out, which have already had success on New Music Friday, Fresh Cuts playlist and the Hot 20 NZ singles charts. Call You Out is always a sing-along event at Lévyne’s shows, as fans connect with the experience of losing a friend.
New tracks on the record round out this adrenaline-pumped collection with some more intimate moments. Icarus presents a glittering ballad about wishing you could humble someone, and title track Would That Be The Best is a late-night ode to losing your way. The EP finishes with Hospital, a guide to regret, released in November 2022.
For this work, Lévyne drew on indie and alternative inspiration while still keeping her roots deep in her pop origins. You can rely on Levyne’s music to have easter eggs layered between bare, honest vocals and individualistic production, influenced by the likes of Fiona Apple, Adrienne Lenker, Rostam and Haim. Together with co-producer Harry Charles, the EP was forged to life through a process of slow-cooked experimentation.
Lévyne’s first EP Being Low was released in 2020, featuring fan favourites such as Pause and If You Want. Following this release, a steady stream of singles were released in between Lévyne’s other involvement as a songwriter and producer. NZ on Air funded single Misconceptions was featured on One News NZ, as was NZ on Air funded Losing Sleep, which gained radioplay on ZM’s Locals Only. She played Rhythm and Vine’s beloved Garden Stage and has hosted a number of sold-out headline shows throughout 2022 and 2023.
For someone whose musical journey has involved them with so many other artist’s work such as Shannon Matthew Vanya, Leaping Tiger, Blake, Jack Panther and many more, Would That Be The Best solidifies Lévyne as a force to be reckoned with and proof that she is powerful on her own.
