Jeremy Redmore Releases Super Catchy Single And Video, 'sing Like A Unicorn'

What happens when an award-winning songwriter and rock singer changes his tune and records a children’s song? For one thing, it’s no Baby Shark! Instead it’s an upbeat, singalong anthem that even parents will want to play again and again.

Fresh off the back of a sell-out first edition of his picture book Sing Like A Unicorn, Jeremy Redmore is now releasing a song and music video to go alongside it; inspired entirely by its story and message that singing can be an incredible way to boost self-esteem and confidence in children.

With a sound that takes its lead from such varying influences as Paul Simon, The Lion King, Vampire Weekend and The Muppets, this isn’t a song that’s been dumbed-down for young ears.

“The songs that had me singing in the shower and in the back seat of the car when I was a kid weren’t by The Wiggles – instead, they were tracks like Hakuna Matata, Rainbow Connection and Me and Julio Down by Schoolyard,” Redmore says.

“So when I sat down to write a kid’s song for my book, I didn’t try to baby it down. It’s a pop song: filled with hooks and opportunities to clap, shout and sing along. I’m just lucky I can still sing as high as a seven-year-old, so we can all sing it together!”

Accompanying the song is a lively animated music video which sees the book’s characters come to life in plasticine form and is bound to soon top the YouTube request list for any Kiwi kid under 10.

Lovingly crafted by Adam Rowland of Awkward Animations, the music video took hundreds of hours of careful filming and editing to create its stop-motion storyline.

The song and video release is timed to coincide with the launch of a second edition of the Sing Like A Unicorn picture book, after its first sold out within two weeks in November 2021.

This paperback edition of the book is available now via www.singlikeaunicorn.co.nz for $19.99 and can be ordered wholesale at www.tikitibu.com.

Whether as the frontman of Midnight Youth or as a solo artist, the unmistakable voice of Jeremy Redmore has played an important role in the fabric of New Zealand music over the past decade; he hopes that this delightful new song can inspire the next generation of singers to do the same, and more.
