Introducing Aunty Rae Debut Single 'wedding Vows' Out Today

Aunty Rae is the shamelessly emotional alter ego of Tamaki Makaurau singer, songwriter, Holly Afoa. Embracing sultry dialogue of affliction, romance, and femme empowerment, Aunty Rae commits herself to the timeless qualities of R&B fusing together old school and alt-hip-hop elements. Following her first-ever and last ever Holly Afoa EP titled Sister, Aunty Rae dives further into troubled situations through soulful melodies, familiar narratives, and spoken word.

On Wedding Vows, Aunty Rae picks at the incompetence of millennial romance. Contrary to what the title suggests, this is no love song, rather a honeyed threat to meet in the middle. “I’m not waiting for you” Aunty Rae floats over hard-hitting sub bass and zen-inducing pads before presenting the grim outcome if things don’t go her way “I’ll bury the bones right here” (don’t worry, it’s a metaphor). Boasting layered harmonies, sweetly placed call and response, and a sensually confronting spoken word verse, Aunty Rae expresses her romantic frustrations.

Wedding Vows was mixed and produced by Auckland-based beatmaker Akshay Raju.
