Independent Artist Ella Minehan Presents Sophomore Single

Following the success of her 2021 debut single Written Lines – which debuted at number 6 on the NZ iTunes Singles Chart – 22 year-old Christchurch singer songwriter Ella Minehan is back with her follow up single, Lavender Hearts. An upbeat yet soft track, the song perfectly encapsulates both elements of the Pop and RnB genres that Minehan is so drawn too; soothing pop synths and sweet hooks are combined with relaxed melody lines and percussion – prevalent to RnB music.
Lavender Hearts has a special focus on vocals, for more than just highlighting Minehan’s vocal range. She believes that the power of lyrics help listeners emote and empathize better to a situation – hence the stripped back instrumentation combined with the strong vocal focus. The track tells the bittersweet story of a failed love, that appears unobtainable in future relationships. Minehan sings about leaving pride out of the picture, when chasing soulmates and true love – and the ability someone special can have in turning your heart different colours of love; in this case, lavender to blue.
Lavender Hearts is unique in its contrasting themes; the more harsh and melancholy lyrics parallel the sweet and soft melody to produce a result that is unexpected and intriguing. It appears Minehan enjoys playing on polarising ideas, what with her decision to release a bittersweet and despondent love song, 3 days before Valentine’s Day.
As with her debut release, this track was also written by Minehan and Wellington producer, Yohan De Silva, in 2021.
Lavender Hearts is available for streaming on all major platforms now.
