Hotel Death Star Release New Single ‘Bravestar’
Bravestar is the 4th single by Hotel Death Star – Bali-based duo Andreas Arianto & Phil Stoodley. A dark, gritty, ominous synth track with soft baritone vocal drones, along with twangy surf guitar. It could serve as your favorite vintage sci-fi movie soundtrack that you have never heard, or a Tarantino-esque space cowboy movie score.
The track found its genesis on acoustic guitar, recorded into an iPhone by Phil. When Andreas received the recording via WhatsApp, he was eager to jump into production right away. Beats and synth lines were created swiftly, with the majority of the track created in one studio session. Andreas shows off his guitar skills by performing a memorable retro guitar riff and surprisingly credits a vocal performance after Phil insisted they utilise his low register to lay down a Tibetan style mantra chant. For the main vocal line, Phil enters into the synthesized vocoder realm, uncharted waters for a singer-songwriter and his purist roots. But clearly, it puts a twist to the storytelling.
The duo have come a long way in a short time, from Phil scratching out crude laptop demos in the cold mountains of snow-drenched Japan in early 2020. Since then, the two have put in countless hours and are close to completing a total of 10 tracks. Hotel Death Star’s EP is due for release early 2022.
Bravestar will be released worldwide Friday 12th November 2021 on all streaming platforms.
