Eclectic NZ/AU collaboration Milly Moon & The Velvet Isle release soaring vocals and deep grooves in their debut single ‘I Am’

“A seemingly unstoppable force of nature [Milly Moon’s] voice dips and rises into eccentric lows and chilling falsettos. She holds back and lets loose at all the right times…It’s a showstopping performance” – Bored In Pittsburgh USA.
From Aotearoa vocalist Milly Moon, and Naarm drummer Lyle Jenkins, comes a soul-fuelled collaboration in the new project Milly Moon & the Velvet Isle.
Returning to Aotearoa and to her roots in poetry, prose and a veneration for unadorned song, Moon completed two international tours of her award-winning solo production Walking Songs before reuniting with long time co-writer Jenkins (Winter Moon). The collaboration showcases a new layer to Moon’s eclectic repertoire, in the release of haunting and soulful rock-ballad, titled I Am.
With signature raw, unapologetic vocals, and a driving rhythm, I Am features the undeniable talents of Lachlan Bruce (The Dead Amigos, El Bebe) and Scott Wilson (Stevie & The Sleepers, El Bebe), and was produced by Brent Quirk (Brent’s Place Audio) at the iconic One Be Studios in Melbourne.
A heavy-hitting 4 minutes of catharsis, I Am delivers on it’s poignant (and yet again timely) message of release, survival and celebration of women reclaiming self-sovereignty. The message of which, the band’s soon to be released accompanying video, elegantly captures.
