CAITLIN Releases EP ‘Legacy’
Ōtautahi-based singer-songwriter Caitlin Bradley (CAITLIN) has today released her highly anticipated EP Legacy. This EP showcases Caitlin’s signature blend of indie-folk and alt-pop, delving deep into personal and reflective themes. Featuring three acclaimed singles — Light Leak, What You Love, and Legacy — alongside a brand new track, Attention. Legacy captures Caitlin’s vulnerability, artistic growth, and bold storytelling.
The EP’s title track, Legacy, dives into the struggles faced by artists when pursuing their dreams. Described as “a deeply personal track that explores the fear of never leaving a mark”, Caitlin examines the emotional cost of chasing a creative career. Produced alongside Emily C. Browning, the song’s lush production evokes the feeling of “floating on your back in deep water” with layers of guitars and rich vocals that capture the intensity of her inner turmoil. Fan-favourite Light Leak embraces the theme of vulnerability and the bittersweet process of letting go. As Caitlin explains, “I’m telling a story of letting go of a sweet future you imagined and held dearly, accepting your fate, and walking away from it with a bittersweet taste.” Produced by Will McGillivray, the indie-folk track features intimate vocals and a soundscape that alludes to the styles of Ethan Gruska and Bon Iver with rich, acoustic textures. Light Leak highlights Caitlin’s ability to craft deeply emotional and delicate melodies.
What You Love explores the tension between capitalism and kaitiakitanga, addressing feelings of being a young person in the corporate world. Caitlin delivers her meditations with a stunning melody, haunting backing vocals, a driving acoustic sound, and strong lyrical imagery.
