Birdparty Release Highly Anticipated Debut Album ‘Birdparty’

After a year of constant gigs and shortly before their 16-show tour of mainland China, Birdparty have released their debut self-titled album, Birdparty.
Birdparty is the unlikely merging of metal musician William Barrett (Heresiarch) and electronic producer and sound designer Emma Bernard (Ludus). Constructed with sample-based textures, deconstructed vocals and live drums, the duo build scintillating cinematic soundtracks for the adventurous listener.
Undefinable and unmissable, Birdparty explores the realms between ambience and uproar — delivering a cathartically noisy spread of cinematic semi-industrial goods & services.
Since emerging in 2023, Birdparty have established themselves as one of the most exciting new live acts in New Zealand, captivating crowds at festivals such as Twisted Frequency, Newtown Festival, Camp A Low Hum and Welcome to Nowhere, as well as being the feature artists the City Gallery of Wellington’s Tuatara Late Nights and a string of consistent local shows.
“If you haven’t seen or heard Birdparty yet, it’s time to get with the programme mate. One of the most thrilling acts at this year’s Camp A Low Hum festival amongst rather strong contenders, Birdparty are Whanganui’s sonically boundless, percussive avant-club duo” – Undertheradar
Emma Bernard is a well established electronic musician and sound designer in New Zealand, and has been performing under Ludus since 2017. This project encompasses seemingly all aspects of electronic music, from DJing, producing, sound design and audio engineering. In Birdparty Emma produces and plays synths, electronic percussion and vocals.
William Barrett began his musical journey in metal, performing in several sub-genres of metal bands over the years in Wellington. Now William has narrowed his musical energy between playing drums for Birdparty and playing bass in the internationally acclaimed Heresiarch.
Together the duo played in Black Metal band Fall Of Man, in which they opened for Cradle of Filth’s debut New Zealand show. When Emma and William moved to Whanganui, a musical void was left for them both, and in 2023 Birdparty emerged.
