Ok, so the first thing I’ve got to ask is… what’s a GUNT?
Pick a roll and fuck it hahaha.
You wanna hear the story?
Sure…
Well my flatmate at the time, he goes, “look at that young GUNT” and I said what’s a GUNT? And he goes “oh, well obviously she’s young, but it’s when her guts hang over her cunt” hahaha so hence the name.
Yeah we’re kinda immature.
We were stuck for a name and we’d been only been going for three weeks, we had a gig booked and basically it was like, I told the boys and they cracked up, and it stuck.
Well everybody loves GUNT…
We couldn’t think of a name so we actually used it, it was gonna be a one off thing, we were gonna make a new name but we never really got round to it and everybody loved it.
It’s a name that people can remember I think.
Well I’m not going to forget it in a hurry…
Yeah we get a lot of different reactions from a lot of different people.
I’ve noticed you guys seem to have quite a few different musical influences that show up in your music…
Huge range… we call it mongrel metal – just throw all your favourite metal bands in a frying pan and cook them up, we just throw it all in the pot and then you get a bit of crazy shit.
When was the new EP ‘From Darkness To Deletion’ released?
March 26th was the release date.
We hooked up with our good friend Alec from Hit Your Head Music and he was basically like “Hey, I’ll give you guys a hand” he’s been a mate of ours for a long time and finally he thought we had matured enough to become part of the label, and he knows the avenues to go down, he’s like our manager in a way, he’s done a lot for us, props to Al man!
Have you guys got any big plans for the future?
Yeah Dave’s birthday, Happy birthday Dave!
When we finish this tour we’re gonna knuckle down and finish writing this album, we’ve already got half of it written now.
We got a couple of big gigs coming up, Rock Out West and we got out 100th gig coming up, after that we just wanna get home and get onto the new album, we’ve already got six songs done.
So early next year we should see some full length GUNT released?
That’s what we’re planning, but we do spend about a month writing a song, it takes time to perfect it.
Ok… What’s the funniest thing that has ever happened at a gig or on tour?
Every time we tour we come up with different sayings, this tour we’re drinking Dickins cider haha.
Any final quotes?
Don’t do heroin!
Stick to your roots, keep it real, respect your elders, happy mothers day.
