G Taranaki Shotgun Alley Interview 1

Thanks to David for answering these questions:

What can we expect to see from Shotgun Alley over the next year?

In February this year we recorded our debut album, at this point we are in the mixing mastering phase with goals to release it before the end of 2010. Also our 6 date winter tour across the country with support from local friends, Sonic Altar. Lots of shows and new music.

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

As cheesy as it is, follow your dreams, set high goals and chase them. If you love, performing and writing then just keep at it, work hard and make sure you always have fun.

Who are your favourite NZ musicians/bands, and why?

Sonic Altar are a definite favourite, purely because of there great style and showmanship. helps that the guys in the band are alright too 😉 Also The Rabble, they have worked so hard and perform at there best every show, they deserve everything they have and more. They should be an inspiration to all up and coming bands.

Who would you most like to support live?

There is definitely a lot of bands i would love to support, all my faves like Metallica, Whitesnake, Skidrow, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard to name a few.

How do you believe Shotgun Alley fits into the NZ music industry?

The funny thing is we are a bit left field, which I think we are proud of. We are not your generic rock band, with generic songs. We decided as a band why not play music like ones of our heroes. Which has given us I supposed that 80’s rock vibe. I believe we fit in because there is nobody else in this country doing the style we do. Therefore offering something different to mainstream listeners but really giving back something to local classic rock followers.

What can you never leave home without?

My I-Phone, I use it for everything!!!

What is the best part of being a musician?

Being able to do something that I love day in and day out and call it a job.

What is in your CD collection at home?

Anything from Metallica to Westlife and all in between.

What is your favourite place in NZ to be?

Auckland cos I grew up here, my Family and Friends are here and I know it so well.

What is the best gig you have ever performed at, and why?

April last year we supported Alice Cooper, that was definitely a high light, Because it was Alice. Then probably playing the Viper room in LA, Because the crowd was awsome and it was the Viper Room!!!!

I’m Lisa, Muzic.NZ’s founder and manager. I also manage the Aotearoa Music Industry Collective as well as the Aotearoa Rock Community and the Gig Space Facebook groups. I’ve been interested in music for as long as I can remember – I grew up listening to my parent’s records and watching the Top 40 Countdown on TV every weekend. I also played the drums and guitar in high school, and wrote lyrics for some of my friend’s bands. I come from a musical background; my Granddad was one of the main founders of country music clubs in Taranaki. Rock is my favourite genre of music, but I enjoy a huge variety of genres from old school hip-hop through to metal, punk, pop, folk and EDM. My advice to NZ musicians’ is to build yourself a great support network, never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and talk to
