The Carnys are a folky punk, anarcho feminist band from Wellington. They have been around since 1999 and been through about four different lineup changes arriving at the present four-piece set up in 2002, which sees them as probably the only punk band in the country with a violinist.
The Carnys have played heaps of gigs everywhere in Wellington including Punkfest 2000 and 2001, and have had a few trips up to Auckland for ‘fests such as Riots Not Diets, Get Set Go and UnityFest, one to Christchurch for an Anti-Vivisection benefit gig and Green Spikes in Wanganui.
The Carnys’ self-titled debut album was released in June 2002 and is available from record stores, The Freedom Shop (Wgtn), Necropolis (AK), at gigs or from the band.
