Sheelahroc, meaning ‘Women Are The Strength’, was formed in Christchurch in May 1999. Originally consisting of 8 members of various ethnicities; Japanese, Maori, Samoan and Niuean, the initial performance reflected the full spectrum of Hip-Hop.

Since being formed, Sheelahroc have performed alongside Che Fu, DLT, King Kapisi, P-Money and the Dawn Raid Collective. They have also opened for Bone Thugs n Harmony.

Sheelahroc split in 2002, with their last performance being at the Jetset Lounge in Christchurch.

Karoline Tamati now performs as Ladi 6, whilst Tyra Hammond has performed with Tyra and The Tornadoes and Opensouls.
