Hailing from the picturesque landscapes of New Zealand, Matthew found inspiration in the raw beauty of nature and the rich multicultural tapestry that surrounded him. Influenced by the storytelling traditions of American folk and rock n roll and the authenticity of the Americana genre, Matthew embarked on a musical journey as a drummer/songwriter leading him to the vibrant music scene of Los Angeles and Austin TX.
Matthew started playing drums in bands at the age of 14 and where he soon found himself playing shows all over the Auckland music scene. He also started to write songs which led him to learning the guitar and harmonica. After a few years of performing in multiple bands Matt took off for the USA. It was in the states where he got into recording and learnt how to engineer and mix records.
Matthew has now taken all of these experiences and skills to his own music where he writes, records and performs his songs.
With influences ranging from Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Barry Gibb, his debut album Even The Dying is Matthew’s introspective look into love, death, betrayal and redemption. All things he has faced and overcome.
