Eight

Going into Altitude in Hamilton is always an exciting prospect especially when you’re seeing NZ music, but good NZ music. Eight are one of my fav NZ bands, and OpShop are growing on me more and more.

The surprise of the night for me was how good OpShop are live, I liked their music before I saw them live but they really put on a tight set. They started out slow and built the groove up to hammering out pure rock with Behind The Sun and No Ordinary Thing. By this stage Altitude was packed which was a total credit to their performance. There was also a song about war which intrigued me – so listen out they are great and definitely a great band to watch live.
Song I rate: Saturated.

Now I’m a big Eight fan, I’ve seen them live pretty much anytime they have been in Hamilton or Raglan, and I must say I’m still not sick of them. Eight really know how to rock. The last time I saw them was in Diggers in Hamilton, a more intimate setting and they really got in touch with the audience, long emotive guitar solos, really captivated the audience. But last night… Last night was a rock show to be reckoned with – a side of eight that I haven’t really seen but I highly recommend you experience. Still captivating with the classic emotional lyrics and hypnotic vibe that Eight is famous for but, but adding guitar and drum thrashing in true ‘Rock Style’ that in the middle of the set one of Paul’s floor toms needed a bit of TLC. If this gig is coming to your town soon, don’t miss out!!!
Song I rate: Centre Of Me
