Osmium and Made in China Southern Deliverance Tour 11/02/2011 The Factory, Palmerston North
The Factory is a very cool little venue. Enough people know about it to get in a crowd but not too many to ruin the intimacy.
Made In China have more of a rock sound than anything reminding me musically of latter day Metallica and Alice n Chains. Their singer is very different from James Hetfeild being quite a lot like a cross between Daniel Johns from Silverchair and Layne Staley from Alice n Chains helping give them a more Grunge, Sludge metal sound but the guitar and drums are very much like some of Metallica’s later stuff.
Osmium were absolutely awesome. Being a huge fan of the Alice n Chains style of sludge metal these guys gave us a treat and a half. Their lead singer reminded me a lot of Devin Townsend from Strapping Young Lad when he still had hair. For a three piece they had a huge sound. Their bass player is also used quite heavily as a singer reminding you even more of Alice n Chains with their vocal harmonies. If you closed your eyes you could almost see Layne singing. They describe themselves as Southern Groove Metal and they definitely know how to groove. The power of the riff is strong within them. I really liked this band. Good strong riff based Metal with strong vocals.
Although being one of the support bands, Machine King played last and gave us a solid set of blues based classic metal original tracks. Very much in the style of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin they finished the show strongly. They were only a 3 piece once again but still had a very full sound.
The crowd dwindled out into the cool evening satisfied and smiling. Another awesome night at the Factory.
