The Weekend Went Without You Album Review 1

The Weekend Went Without You is a collection of catchy songs in the key of awesome.  The music is an amalgamation of juxtaposed styles and influences; an orgy of pop, punk, jazz, blues and garage rock.  Think Kasabian / Arctic Monkeys style semi-psychedelic Brit-rock with a peppering of White Stripes.  The energy needle on this record never slips below a slow rocking.  The feel-good feeling never stops feeling good.

While perfectly mixed it is far from over-produced.  There is no reason to believe that these songs feel as good on your stereo / iPod as they do in the pub at the live show.

The liner notes lack lyrics, or any liner notes at all.  Instead you get a collage of everything the band is about; photos of sweater scarf combos, body graffiti, a tour van, a wide range of sauces and dressings, good times on the road and track lists from their extensive touring.

If you get the chance to see these guys live, which no doubt you will since they spend most of their band life touring and gigging, don’t waste your time leaning against the bar thinking you look hot.  You’re coming across as a pretentious tool.  This music is made to be danced to.  So dance or you’ll find the weekend went without you.
