Relentless Entropy Album Review 1

New Zealand metal is continually getting more and more recognition and more and more respect nationally and internationally because of the quality of the product we are producing. We have a long history with a growing number of bands bringing out material on regular basis. One of the bands that have been in existence for many years is Malevolence. They have been around since 1992 so have a 22 year history and they have released a whole bunch of EPs and also a split LP with Backyard Burial so have immersed themselves in the scene. Quite often they are tagged as death metal and punk but to me the punk label is more about the fact that they have short stabby songs. This is a band that does not mess around trying to be like Metallica and have epic big tracks but get straight to the point and bring quality and brutal death metal.

Relentless Entropy is a brutal album. This is only Malevolence’s second full length album but as eluded to earlier they have released plenty of material to this point. They don’t mess around and this isn’t slow death metal grind but straight ahead death metal played at great speed and furiousness that will leave you wanting more of this goodness. They cover topics ranging from technology with the track Digitize through to the humorous with Property of Satan maybe even a piss take of tech bands with the track titled Chased Through The Woods (with a rhyming dictionary) mate what a mouth full. Speaking of mouthfulls Legalize touches on cannibalism. Great lyrical content great riffs this is death metal for fans who don’t take life to seriously.

I say this over and over again but the quality of NZ metal is getting better and better not just with the production values but with the content and this is another fine example of Kiwi metal at its finest. I highly recommend this release and also suggest you check out their website where the generous buggers offer a lot of their old material for free download. Their cover of the old Zodiac mind warp track Prime Mover is brilliant. Support the scene and give these guys a few bucks they deserve every dollar.
