Quicksand Album Review 1

Quicksand is Kiwi rockers Black River Drive’s most recent release. It’s a decent hit of hard driven riffs, melody and everything that made you like them in the first place. Now expanded to a five piece, the new album is a step up from their superb debut, Perfect Flaws.

Laden with riffs that take you by surprise, edgy and somewhat dark, there is something here for most rock fans. Although, if you think you’ll be hearing another dose of the brilliant, but somewhat over played song, Bullet For Your Gun you would be wrong – as distinct as Black River Drive’s sound is, they’ve taken a step back from catchy tunes with this album.

A couple of standout tracks like Quicksand and Straight For The Sun will get your full attention, while in all honesty, I found some of the other songs tended to blend into the background without a second thought. Nevertheless, this is proving to be a particularly strong album for Black River Drive, and I’m sure a lot of their fans will agree. So whether you dig them or not, check out this album – it’s well worth the listen, and I see Black River Driver hanging around for a while yet.
