Ep Review: #get It Boyz 1

#Get It Boyz is a sparkling EP, with a contemporary and engaging Hip-Hop sound, it’s very tuneful and full of smooth grooves that get your head nodding and body swerving. With the tightest of wraps that are fast and succinct, and although they are generally tough sounding they are littered with lighter moments and insightful commentaries on the world we live in.

Most of the cool wraps are enclosed with tuneful choruses, highlighted with soaring keys and melodious harmonies. There are spurts of fast techno rhythms, but for the most part we’re treated to a steady walking wrap backing rhythm, peppered with a glittery collection of synth effects and electro drum beats. The vocal work is a treat, with a wonderful mix of sublime wraps and tuneful croons, sometimes playful and other times gritty and tough. The profanity is sparse and thus is used to much better effect. The opening and closing songs on the EP Live For (Die For) andLike Mike have a sophisticated soulful sound with its melodic R&B style chorus’s sung in full praise.

A real collective of talent has joined in with creative and performance contributions from the likes of P-Money, Lil Trigarow, M.E.Z., Times x Two, Team On Point, Young Tapz and Epic The Future. Surprisingly the sound and feel is not disjointed with so many different collaborators. The subtle changes in mixes and song structure offer just enough variety to make the whole album work in a party situation or as personal listening experience. You can feel and hear a sense of family, a united group dedicated to the art that moves them, and with #Get It Boyz we all get to share in its Hip-Hop.
