Rebel Sound Radio

Reviewing singles is often trickier than reviewing an EP or album as a body of work can help an overall sense of a band as opposed to just one song, in this case, it’s the single Liberation by Hamilton based three-piece Rebel Sound Radio.

This is all I have heard of the band, and as a first single it’s on the right track, it has a hint of The Offspring in the frontman, Jessie Hanright’s voice and a strong melodic hooky chorus….. so hooky in fact that my 10 year old step daughter was singing it in the bath!

My only real critique would be that perhaps the song could do with a radio edit but then again I have always tried to avoid radio edits myself so, I get it. I thought also that it was a little unadventurous in parts, while over playing can get cringe worthy, a little bit of flare from the bassist and drummer can often help the songs shine a little more.

Rebel Sound Radio are currently working on an E.P at Depot Sound in Auckland to follow up their single which will give us all a little more to go from, but this is a solid track and a good place to start, so, kudos guys!
