Album Review: Blues From The Red Sons 1

The debut album by Auckland redheaded sludge rockers, Bloodnut, was released last weekend after much anticipation. A refreshing band, that doesn’t take themselves too seriously. Just enough to prove they aren’t mucking around, while still having a bunch of fun.

With a clear Ginger-worship theme, their lyrics bring a smile to the face while you bang your head to their catchy, infectious riffs. The influences are strong in this one – Kyuss, Red Fang, The Melvins and the like. Everything about this band is a win for me, it ticks all the appropriate boxes; sick riffs, fun yet meaningful lyrics and catchy songs that make you want to sing along and get amongst it.

Standout tracks for me would definitely be Drop Dead Redhead for its catchy riffs and great lyrics, Witches Mountain for its drum driven groove and memorable hooks  and Fire Giant for its chunky chugs, mixed with the gang vocal style used in the chorus.

I highly recommend this album for anyone with a tinge of the ginge. Or anyone, for that matter! Go out and grab a copy today, there is Physical copies as well as digital downloads available from their Bandcamp now!
