Single Review:Torn to Pieces

2016 has been a massive year for 5-piece Auckland death metal band Silent Torture. With the release of their debut E.P (Your Creation) at the beginning of January and countless gigs all across the country, this young and talented act is one to keep an eye on. After hearing rumours from the band that a new E.P was on the horizon and with the recent release of this single, I was eager to finally hear the finished product.

The introduction to the track is instant. With a huge pelting of distorted guitars and thumping drum stabs, we are thrust into a seemingly industrial type situation. The song then evolves via blast beat into a brutal mosh pit of bloodthirsty riffs and razor sharp vocal explosions. Vocalist Liam Hand is accompanied by Dan Birrell of fellow tech death band, Carnal. To deliver an absolutely, face melting, layer cake of lyrical blasphemy. A perpetual build of pace and aggression toward a grinding halt, leaves us feeling like we’re hanging on a cliffs edge.

This single is a good indication of a step in the right direction for Silent Torture. With fresh ideas, originality and great production. The song is relentless and blunt, transporting us to a nightmare of bloodlust and brutality.

Combined with provocative artwork and aggressive themes, this is one designed for the death metal fan in all of us.
