Sons of Zion have been rather quiet since their 2017 EP, The Jukebox Suite, but after the release of their single Drift Away, you could really sense something great was coming. That something is their new album Vantage Point.
The album cover is a geometric design showing a ladder going from 1 level to another, to the “vantage point”. I think the orange colour reflects the positive Summer vibe this album gives off.
Vantage Point provides quite a range with regards to lyrics and music. The tracks jump between fun and upbeat like Mash It Up featuring Israel Starr and Reggae-style tracks like Early In The Morning to slower tracks such as So Bright. This makes each track flow effortlessly together while touching on a few different subjects. Leave With Me is about meeting someone and wanting to take them home, whereas Same Old Me is about the past and present. Same Old Me somewhat made me miss my carefree childhood days.
Other features on the album include Pacific artists Fiji and the beautiful Aaradhna. Is That Enough featuring Aaradhna was released last year with an accompanying video which comes across as a jam session. The accompanying video for Drift Away was focused on a lovely Summer romance and reflects the Summer vibe in the album.
Vantage Point is vocally very strong. It is hard to go past the RnB and Soul vocals that feature throughout the album, providing a smooth relaxing flow throughout. Sons of Zion seem to be refreshed and Vantage Point is sure to do well. I am sure that when the Summer weather returns, this album will be anywhere and everywhere.
