Single Review: I’ve Got Zero Attention 1

Bingo Fighter has released I’ve Got Zero Attention as their debut single. Headed by singer/songwriter Hayden Linney, this short track has a rather British Punk Rock sound, like a less abrasive and sarcastic Sex Pistols.

Lyrically speaking, the song leaves a lot to be desired, with a chorus that is composed of “I’ve got zero attention, Put me in detention” repeated for twenty seconds. With three choruses within this under two-minute song, over half of the track is these two lines repeated. Good from a live standpoint as it’s an easy song to sing and chant along with, but from a static listening point of view, it can wear on your patience rather quickly.

With a simple rhyming scheme, the verses come off as basic, which does fit in with the idea of having no attention span, but ultimately feels forced and doesn’t quite gel with the instrumentation.

Instrumentally, there is nothing to fault. I’ve Got Zero Attention has a good high pace drum beat, which is consistent throughout, with some deft drum rolls at the end of every bar, a more reclusive sound by switching from the snare to hi-hat in the verses, and a great little build-up in the breakdown. The guitar follows the vocal melody with the odd decorative element added in.

If Punk is the sound that they are going for, then they are well on their way, as the song will work well live; short, sharp, and easy to sing along with. If they are wanting to follow a more melodic direction, then there is a bit more work to be done. There is definite potential for future Bingo Fighter tracks, but the excessive simplicity of I’ve Got Zero Attention, with guitar and vocal melody tracking exactly the same, gives the song a limited shelf-life before you would look to replace it on the playlist.

Hey there! I’m Alex. Long time music lover, long time reviewer, and now I finally get to combine those and be a music reviewer! As a guitarist, pianist, and vocalist, I have a great appreciation for musicianship and the technicalities that go along with a group of people making music together. My genres of preference tend to gravitate towards Punk/Rock/Heavy/Metal, but I also like to dabble in some Classical, Pop, and even some Drum and Bass. Hope you enjoy my contributions!
